Aquarium Aeration

Aquarium fish require proper amounts of oxygen in the water to survive. In nature, the fish's natural environment, there is plenty of oxygen to be had from the natural movement of water. However, this is not the case inside the small, confined are inside a fish tank. The artificial process of supplying oxygen is called aeration.

The aquarium aerating system includes the following pieces

1. air pump
2. t-pieces
3. rubber tubing
4. clamp or regulator
5. diffusers or airstone

The centeral part of the aquarium aeration system is the aquarium air pump. The aquarium air pump pumps air through a tube into a filter, from the filter to a special aerationg appliance or to a air-supplied ornament. The air pump and other parts of the aeration system help to maintain the right oxygen level in the water. In general, you don't need the use of fish tank filters if you have an air pump system. It's important that you choose the right air pump for your aquarium. Fortunately, this is not difficult.

In general, a properly aerated aquarium tank will ensure both the PH levels of the water are correct and there is enough oxygen in the water for the fish to breathe. There are various kinds of air pumps -- even some battery-operated air pumps to ensure air keeps on being pumped into the aquarium in the event of a power failure.

Indeed, aquarium air pumps can be found in many different sizes and shapes. You can choose from a variety of different aquarium air pump brands. The most popular are the Ario Color 2 Air Pump and the Ario Colour 4 Airpump, both which come in 3 different colors (blue, red, and green). Some other popular air pumps brands are the tecax air pump with dyna free and the Super 555, which is cheaper than the tecax but not as durable. If you want to pay top price for the best, you can opt for the Whisper and Ren's air pumps. Make sure to place the air pumps above the water level and ensure they are hooked to a nonvibrating material

If you are providing an aeration system for a small tank, you can use a simple aquarium air pump attached to a airstone with a rubber tube. This system will essentially be blowing the air into the aquarium water which causes motion in the water and provides oxygen for the fish.

Many people complain that air pumps are loud. One thing you can do to mitigate the noise is to ensure the air pump is placed on a large sponge which insulates the noise.
